Mobile unit heading to Myrtleford

WITH Australia having one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, the Myrtleford Lions Club is funding a visit by the Lions V District Cancer Foundation’s 'Skin Check and Awareness Unit' for the residents of Myrtleford to access a free skin check screening.

Fresh from the success of the 69th annual Golden Spurs Rodeo on Boxing Day in 2024, the Myrtleford Lions Club, in conjunction with public and private supporters, have coordinated a visit to Ovens Valley by the 'Skin Check and Awareness Mobile Unit' on February 15 and 16 at the Myrtleford Recreation Reserve.

The mobile unit van is fully air-conditioned and comprises of three fully equipped rooms with entry foyer and disabled lift access in the rear of the van.

It will provide a free skin check by fully trained, certified, and professionally supervised volunteers to the Myrtleford community residents.

Visitors who sign up will be able to receive their skin screening as well as have access to valuable and timely information about skin care and various self-testing techniques.

With the early detection of skin lesions having the potential to save lives, the ability for the community to have access to this level of support will serve as a reminder of the need to take care of their skin.

The Myrtleford Lions Club, using funds raised during the 2024 Rodeo, are proud to support such worthwhile causes and will be looking at bringing more such events that support the local Myrtleford community and its residents.

"After the success of the rodeo last month, we've put some of those funds raised towards bringing this van to our community," Myrtleford Lions Club secretary, Paul Tanner said.

"With the unit's appointment process, this service will be publicly available to anyone in the area."

Further details on how to book your free skin check screening will be available in next week’s edition.
