THE dust is only just beginning to settle on another season of Ovens and King football and netball, and if it hasn’t already, planning will soon commence for the upcoming 2025 season of sport.

UBFNC president Gerard Gray and his dedicated team of committee members have worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for players to take to the court and field whilst wearing the white and blue.

Gray had some insights into the season that was.

“It has been a successful year on a whole host of levels,” Gray shared.

“Lifting the cup last weekend would have been amazing but I am extremely proud of the effort put in by Paul Harrison and the entire squad.

“The reserves were also only a kick off getting to a grand final as well and Mick Elliott has done a fantastic job this year.

“Netball seemed to have a great feeling from top to bottom and hum along nicely this year – from the wonderful work Erin (Nightingale) and Nicky (Connelly) have done nurturing our under 15s through to 17s with Nic Connelly getting our girls to the second week of the finals.

“Georgie’s (Matters) B reserve girls were so close to playing finals, B grade lead by Tracy (Fitzpatrick) and Laura (Harris) playing finals and went down swinging, and then Kate (Buckley) and Janis (Madden) working hard with our top line A grade girls.”

Speaking on outgoing senior football coach Harrison, who has just coached his final match after four seasons in the driver’s seat, Gray was thrilled with his contribution to the club.

“Well, what can I say – Paul has been just fantastic,” Gray added.

“His love of the club and his players is so evident and the work he puts in to try and continue to build and improve is absolutely first class – he leaves big shoes to fill.

“It really sets us up for a big 2025.”
