Spring is the season for cattle sales

THE Myrtleford Spring Special Cattle Sale will be held at the Myrtleford Saleyards on October 9.

Nutrien Ivone branch manager, Bernard Ivone, said the event is expected to draw clients mainly from the King, Ovens and Kiewa valleys.

"In the past we have mostly had clients from the local area, although some farmers have attended from as far away as Omeo and Benambra," he said.

The Myrtleford cattle sales will come after an encouraging start to spring, after a harsher than usual winter due to irregular weather patterns.

"Everyone's had a tough season," Nutrien Ivone livestock administrator, Laura Nankervis said.

"We expect there will be a few underweight calves, but hopefully after the recent rains, that will bring on a spring flush of new grass.

"This should help the cows recover from this year's tough winter due to the lack of feed."

The event will be held at the Nutrien Ivone cattle yards on the corner of Matheson Road and the Great Alpine Road on Wednesday, October 9 from 10:30am.
