What are your hobbies or interests?
Latest Stories
I've got a big interest in music. I play a few different instruments and love it. I sing with the Bright Singers and play mallet percussion with the Mount Beauty band. Some U3A activities I’m really enjoying, in particular woodwork. That's a fantastic group, they have some really interesting ideas and I learn lots of skills and enjoy that. Also walking the dog, training the dog, riding the bike and gardening.
What do you like about the area?
Its natural beauty, the opportunities to enjoy all sorts of outdoor recreation, the clean air, the beautiful night skies, the community that I think is a fabulous community. There's enough going on, but not too much going on.
Where would you take visitors to showcase the area?
There’s a great range depending on the visitor - short walks or long walks, whatever lookouts we can find, some walks along the creeks and walking trails. You can suit all ages and all fitness levels. I guess we’d finish up with a drink of some sort and something to nibble – there’s plenty of opportunity for that.
Is there anything you would change about the area?
I think public transport’s pretty ordinary. It'd be nice if there was a smallish 15-20 seater bus to get the kids who should be getting themselves around but not old enough to drive. Some sort of bus to go into Bright, around the smaller townships and get them home again safely. Housing’s just a shocker. There needs to be more housing and more permanent rental.
Do you have any ambitions for the future?
Get more skilled at woodwork. I'm interested in doing some cabinetry and some creative stuff. I've got a hell of a challenging xylophone solo to play with the band and I need to get that going. Just improving the skills that I’ve got. At this stage I don’t have any new ones that I want to try out, but I'm always open to it in the future.
