David Thanh Nguyen – Myrtleford

How long have you lived in the area?

It's been over a year. I moved up from Melbourne just after COVID. My sister has been here five years now. Just before the bushfires, she opened this and then bushfires hit. And COVID hit. She was just too tired and asked me to come up. I didn't think I was moving up here to be honest. I was working in construction. Life in Melbourne was okay but during COVID nobody knew what was going on. Then my sister gave me this opportunity and the kids and the family liked it up here. We took them to the rivers and the parks and kayaking and the kids pretty much loved it straight off the bat.

What do you do for a living?

My wife and myself own this restaurant (Tu Vietnamese Street Food), that's what we're doing at the moment.

What are your hobbies and interests?

The gym. That's about it with four kids.

What do you like about the area?

Everything's just quite chill, relaxed. Everybody's friendly and I feel the kids can be safe around here.

Where would you take visitors to showcase the area?

I'd take them down to Apex Park, take them down to the wineries. And the centre of town here looks nice – it's good.

Is there anything you would change about the area?

Probably rental properties. I feel that Myrtleford has a lot to give, and a whole lot to grow, but with rental properties there's not much for us to get workers. I've got a couple of friends who've asked what is up here so they can open up or something like that. The first hurdle is getting a rental or purchasing a house.
