COMMUNITY–minded Mount Beauty teenager Callum Bowring has been recognised for his efforts with the Kiewa Valley Young Achiever of the Year Award for 2023.
Callum was awarded at the annual Alpine Shire Australia Day Community Awards in January and said he was "extremely grateful".
"I also immediately felt motivated to continue my efforts within the community," he said.
"I enjoy being able to share my expertise and knowledge in areas that I am interested in with other like–minded individuals who also have goals and are aspiring to be the best that they can be.
"I also like being able to run into someone down the street and have a meaningful conversation with them, regardless of who they are."

Callum has also taken on roles as college vice–captain, student executive and student council representative, is involved with his school's performing arts, as well as participating in multiple local sporting teams.
"In my time in these roles I am proud to have been part of a team who has implemented change to elements of the school, such as the uniform, to ensure that there are adequate options to make all students feel comfortable and included during their time at school," he said.
"In 2020 and 2021 I was awarded the school's performing arts award for my dedication to the school band and other performing arts branches such as the school production and being a leader among these groups.
"I assisted students new to the programs wherever I could; this was all achieved despite the continued curve balls that were thrown at us in that time.
"I enjoy being heavily involved in local sport as it not only provides challenge and give me opportunity to grow, but it is a great platform for me to share some of my sporting expertise with young aspiring athletes.
"It is also a great way to meet new people and collaborate with others, which is an essential skill in life."
For other young people looking to become more involved in their community, Callum has this advice.
"Just start getting to know people," he said.
"Whether you are joining a local club or group, or being a member of a council any way in which you are collaborating with people is a great way to become involved."
