ALPINE Shire Council, in collaboration with the dynamic duo (The Crackpots) behind Myrtleford's Mosaic Trail, intends to develop a mosaic that recognises volunteers who support communities before, during and after disasters.

The mosaic will take the form of a patchwork, with squares dedicated to volunteer groups and organisations in Myrtleford.

The finished product will be displayed in Myrtleford's Piazza as a testament to the volunteers that make up the vibrant and responsive local community.

Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, encouraged groups and organisations to put forward a tile for the mosaic.

"The work of volunteers is selfless and sometimes silent," she said.

"This mosaic is a permanent symbol of their value within the Myrtleford community and will be a beautiful reminder for years to come."

Volunteers are encouraged to design a symbol that represents their group or organisation.

Simplicity is necessary to ensure the symbols can be easily recreated with tiles.

The name of the group or organisation will be placed on a plaque at the bottom of the tile, but can be incorporated into the design.

The Crackpots may modify the design if required to make it work.

Applications close at 11.59pm on Sunday, March 30 next year.

Both state and federal funding will help deliver the project.
