$200k maintenance grant boosts inclusivity

BRIGHT P-12 College is creating a more accessible environment for its students, boosted by $267,159.35 in funding from the State Government’s Planned Maintenance Program (PMP). The grant was part $21 million shared among 78 schools in the latest round of the PMP which provides funding to address high-priority maintenance issues across Victoria’s government schools. The program ensures schools can undertake essential work in classrooms and other school buildings, such as fixing roofs and replacing windows, painting, and resurfacing floors, as well as some external works like improving pathways. Bright P-12 principal Jean Olley said she was pleased the school would be receiving the funding. “The funding is being spent on upgrading the ramps throughout our school in order to make moving around easier for people who use wheelchairs, crutches, prams and other mobility aids,” she said. “These welcome improvements give us the opportunity to be proudly inclusive by providing the best possible access for students, staff and visitors of all abilities.” Victorina Minister for Education, Ben Carroll, said the government was “making sure every single classroom is safe, engaging, and will complement the top-class education we are committed to providing”.
