Fatal fire threat prompts smoke alarm warning

AN increase in the number of house fire fatalities in 2020 has prompted the senior local Country Fire Authority (CFA) officer to urge residents in install smoke alarms or ensure existing ones are working.

CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria data reveals 22 people died in preventable Victorian house fires in 2020, an increase from 16 the year before, and above the long-term annual average of 18.
