YEAR 12 students across the Alpine Shire celebrated the end of their high school career last week, with an impressive number achieving outstanding ATAR results.
Bright P-12 College principal Jean Olley congratulated all students who completed their final year of schooling.
“Reaching this point is a testament to your effort and perseverance, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you,” she said.
“We are also thrilled to share that almost 30 per cent of our Year 12 students achieved an ATAR of 80 or above this year.
“These outstanding results reflect the hard work and commitment of our students, supported by their teachers, families, and our entire school community.

Bright P-12 College Dux, Saskia Heuperman, has ambitious plans for the future; her dedication earned her an ATAR of 98.2.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all I was shocked,” she said.
“I thought I’d go all right but honestly thought my grades in class were flukes.
“I’m excited, and proud of my fellow classmates who achieved great results too.
“My advice to future Year 12s is don’t go in hard and study all year, you just have to stay consistent over the whole year instead of burning yourself out.”
After a well-deserved gap year of travel and work, Saskia intends to pursue a Bachelor of Sports and Exercise Science and a Bachelor of Sports Nutrition at a Victorian university.
Her ultimate goal is to complete a Master of Dietetics and register with Sports Dietitians Australia.
“It was only in the last few years that I thought about this career,” she said.
“I do gymnastics and had to speak to a sports dietician during training so I became interested in it that way.
“Plus there’s lots of new studies about women in sports so I think it’s an up and coming field that I’m excited to contribute to."
Mount Beauty Secondary College principal Simone Roy said she was proud of the achievements of all the unit three and four students, covering all three pathways of VCE, VCE-VM and the VPC.
“This allows them to follow a range of different pathways, with 2024 Year 12 students choosing to go to further education at universities and TAFEs, as well as heading into the workforce and taking up apprenticeships,” she said.
“I’d like to congratulate James 'Jimmy' Derrick, as the 2024 Dux of Mount Beauty Secondary College.
“A conscientious student throughout his years of schooling with us, Jimmy continued to work hard this year, in order to achieve his fantastic result...an ATAR of 91.7.
“Studying two Centre For Higher Education Studies (CHES) units this year and English and physics at school, Jimmy completed specialist mathematics through Virtual School Victoria.
“He completed Unit 3 and 4 chemistry and maths methods last year when in Year 11, to complete his VCE.
“Jimmy is hoping to study at the University of Melbourne, completing a Bachelor of Science/Engineering.
“I wish all our departing Year 12s the very best for the next stage of their lives.”
Jimmy is currently away working on Rottnest Island and was unavailable for comment.
