Second set for Victorian musician, visiting Myrtleford this Saturday

By PHOEBE MORGAN

JOE Matera has released his new book, 'Louder Than Words: Beyond the Backstage Pass', and is due to visit Myrtleford Library this Saturday as a part of his Victorian book tour.

'Louder Than Words' is a compelling and insightful musical journey, full of stories for all music fans who enjoy the music of the 1970s and 1980s as much as its author.

In this second autobiography, Mr Matera recalls stories from the road and elaborates more on the personal side of touring.

"My new book is more of my own personal story weaved into the stories about the artists and music that shaped my life and my own music, and the importance of those particular artists, to popular music culture,'' he said.

"The artists I write about include Bryan Adams, Gerry Rafferty and The Beach Boys, to name but a few."

After two years crafting his new book, this latest composition is ready for its own tour.

"The only challenge along the way was to make sure the writing was engaging as possible, while at the same time making sure all facts were checked for accuracy," Mr Matera said.

"I did numerous re-writes of the manuscript, each time improving on it, to make sure the final manuscript was the best I could write until I was totally, 100 per cent happy with it all."

Mr Matera's fresh perspective on the touring industry after years of experience sets it apart from other books by revealing the reality of steady, collaborative hard work.

"The public perception is that it’s all a glamourous life, but nothing could be further from the truth," he said.

"To make music that is real, to have a career that endures for decades, requires dedication to the art, sacrifice, hard work, tenacity, self-belief and most importantly, true passion for the music.

"At its core my book is part memoir, and part music history and music appreciation."

Joe looks forward to visiting Myrtleford as a part of his book tour.

"Strangely enough, I’ve never managed to get to Myrtleford before, so am looking forward to finally visiting and sharing my stories with the locals as part of my book tour," he said.

Mr Matera will be visiting the Myrtleford Library on Saturday, August 3 from 10am to discuss his new book, as well as a Q&A with the audience and even perform a mini live acoustic concert.
