THE Mount Beauty Writers Festival is on again in October and it will host eight authors from around the country to discuss their latest works.
Fiona Lowe, author of 'A Family of Strangers', 'The Money Club' and the 'Wedding Fever Trilogy' will attend this year to speak about her newest book 'The Accident'.
The novel tells the story of two women from the small town of Garringarup whose lives are changed forever when a car veers off the road and secrets come to the surface.
"Like all my novels, at its heart, 'The Accident' is about flawed characters facing real-world dilemmas and trying their hardest to live their best lives," Ms Lowe said.
"Of course, my two main characters, Hannah and Freya are changed irrevocably by grief and trauma.
Latest Stories
"They start questioning everything they ever believed about each other and those they love, but that's only the start."
Ms Lowe said she enjoys writing as a way of losing herself in a different world and exploring what makes people tick.
"I'm really looking forward to the Mount Beauty Writers Festival," she said.
"I haven't been to it before, but the Victorian high country is a place of my heart and I do visit a couple of times a year.
"I’m a keen snow skier, bush walker and cyclist and the area offers these things in spades.
"Standing among the tall trees or on the banks of a racing snow-melt river is restorative to the soul.
"I promoted 'The Accident' at the Myrtleford Library back in March this year which was a great evening.
"I also spent some time cycling through Myrtleford and around the other trails in the area.
"My husband and I are going to combine the festival this year with a cycling holiday; we'll cycle from the Murray to the Mountains and enjoy lots of the rail trails there."
When asked which book she is currently reading, Ms Lowe said she was excited to be reading an advanced reader copy of Vanessa McCausland’s Harper Collins novel; 'The Last Illusion of Paige White', due for release in December.
"Vanessa’s writing is lyrical and evocative and I’m really enjoying it," she said.
This years' Mount Beauty Writers Festival will be held on Saturday, October 12 at Mountain Monk Brewers (1 Lakeside Avenue, Mount Beauty), from 9am to 5:30pm.
