Brumbies unprotected

FERAL horses in the Alpine National Park including the Bogong High Plains will be culled after the Federal Court last week ruled the alpine brumbies should not be protected.

The Australian Brumby Alliance had been fighting Parks Victoria for 17 months over the plan to kill feral horses in the alpine region but last Friday their case was dismissed by Justice Michael O’Bryan.

The Alliance, led by president Jill Pickering, tried to stop Parks Victoria from actioning its plan to cull the feral horses under its Alpine National Park – Feral Horse Strategic Plan 2018-2021, appealing it would impact the park’s heritage value.
