Snow glorious snow! The Alps have had a timely 10-15cm snow dump overnight as a vigorous cold front swept through the state. Snowfalls began around 7pm last night at Hotham Alpine Resort with holidaymakers and locals waking to a winter wonderland at the resort this morning. Further snowfalls have continued today as temperatures dipped to minus 4C. Further chilly temperatures continue into early next week. Snow lover Madi 5, with her Mum Ali enjoyed the fresh snow at Hotham Alpine Resort today. Mt Hotham has over 70cm snow depth in snowmaking areas, with a huge haul from the snowmakers during the week.

HUGE doubt clouds the Alpine ski season as restrictions on large gatherings, sporting events and social distancing grow to try and combat the spread of coronavirus but Alpine Shire mayor Peter Roper remains cautiously hopeful.

“I am rather hopeful the ski season will go ahead in some shape or form but that will be determined by how well people isolate themselves and how quickly we can get on top of this pandemic,” he said.

“I’d rather hope we can have a ski season by early July – some ski season will be better than none.”
