Smoke taints vintage

ONE of the Alpine Valley region’s much-loved wine producers, Michelini Wines of Myrtleford, has announced it will not produce a vintage this year.

The decision was made after vigorous testing on the wineries core varieties returned results of between three and 10 times over the accepted sensory threshold.

A Facebook post by Michelini Wines confirmed small-batch ferments were also conducted on all varieties and with a number of industry professionals confirming the flavour ranged from a slight char to “taint so overt it was difficult to put in the mouth”, the decision not to produce Estate 2020 or Devils Creek vintage was made.
