GENERATIONS of Whorouly residents present and past gathered by the town’s recreation reserve on Wednesday to commemorate 100 years since the soldier settlement scheme brought dozens of families to the small farming community.

In a project led by the Whorouly Senior Citizens, a bronze plaque was unveiled, bearing the names of 29 veterans who settled on land offered to them by the government on generous lease terms after World War One.

Last week a number of descendants of the original soldier settlers were present, reflecting on their 100 year heritage as part of the Whorouly community.
