Tigers stumble against Hawks

AFTER a stunning opening round win over Beechworth, the Ovens Valley United Tigers were unable to catch a runaway Rovers United Bruck side, going down by 72 runs in Whorouly at the weekend.

Enjoying a second home game in a row, the Tigers were sent into the field and struggled to contain the Rovers batsmen.

Englishman club rookie Daniel Walker claimed the first wicket, denting the Rovers’ start at 1/23 but from there the Rovers compiled two strong partnerships, taking them to 65 before losing their second wicket, then to 153 before Josh Newton made the breakthrough with a stumping by Damien Jenvey.
