    LIKE caviar and champagne, truffles are a food most people consider synonymous with things that happen in French chateaux or on anchored yachts with timber decks in the Mediterranean.

    The unique and finicky underground fungus have been known as ‘the diamond of gastronomy’, and can fetch a handsome price at market, with a per-kilo price that may make your eyes water.

    But the reality is the special fungus is much easier to get onto your plate than you might think.
