WITH just a few days until election day, around 400 Indi voters packed into the Wangaratta Performing Arts and Convention Centre (WPACC) theatre last Wednesday to attend the ABC Goulburn Murray candidates’ forum on Wednesday evening.Available candidates Helen Robinson (Greens), Mark Byatt (Nationals), Steve Martin (Liberal), Helen Haines (Independent) and Eric Kerr (ALP) attended – Jason Whalley (Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party) and Shane Wheatland (UAP) were absent.

Event moderator and ABC journalist Paul Kennedy opened the forum by allowing each candidate to introduce themselves and their party before throwing to the audience to raise their questions.

Should the Newstart welfare allowance be raised by $75 per week?A question asking if there should be a $75 per week increase for unemployed individuals on the Newstart allowance garnered a wide array of answers from the panel.
