Farmers face spraying delays, cattle bloat

Good weather for ducks - but farmers are frustrated by the wet weather and the hindrance to spraying and fertilising.

IT never rains but it pours.

At least that’s the sentiment of cattle farmers frustrated by winter’s big wet.

Plans to spray paddocks for weeds and fertilise have been on hold as rain bands continue to saturate the region.

Elders stock agent Dan Ivone said a lot of farmers couldn’t recall a wetter winter.

“One of the local spreading contractors said it was the first time in 35 years he couldn’t get on the paddocks,” he said.

“The spraying contractors have been pulling their hair out – normally they would be spraying for cape weed and dandelion but it is simply too wet.
