TOP CLASS: Local winemakers Eleana Anderson and Jo Marsh have both been nominated for a major wine industry award.

TWO Alpine Valleys viticulturists are in the running to be named the inaugural Australian Women in Wine, Winemaker of the Year.

Jo Marsh of Billy Button Wines and Eleana Anderson of Mayford Wines are two of the four finalists nominated for the award set up by the Fabulous Ladies’ Wine Society.

Both are thrilled to be nominated and even more excited that the region in which they craft their wines has been thrust into the spotlight.

“It’s an honour to be recognised among such capable female talent,” Ms Marsh said.

“The icing on the cake is the fact that the Alpine Valleys, our cool-climate backyard, is now on the national winemaking map.”

Ms Anderson was delighted to be nominated.

“It’s great recognition,” she said.

“I have long been a believer in the potential of our pristine Alpine Valleys region to produce top class wines – without its remarkable fruit, Mayford Wines would not be the success it is today.”
