Students, teachers thrilled with upgrade

POSSIBILITIES: The new annexe to the kinder/childcare room means that DPS care educator Lauren Bowyer and two of her charges Rowan Jones (left) and Luke Cosgriff can have creative play with clay, paint and glue whenever they like.

PRE-SCHOOLERS at Dederang Primary School’s day care and kindergarten program now have a bright new space to operate in, thanks to a $28,000 grant from the State Government, plus $17,826 which was raised by the school community.

Bill Tilley (MLA, Benambra) joined children and families last week to officially open the new annexe which consists of a large wet area with adjoining toilet facilities for the children.

Mr Tilley said the fundraising effort by the Dederang Primary School council is a wonderful reflection of the generosity and hard work that exists in this community.

“It marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Dederang Primary School with a great new learning environment now filled with natural light, and offering a variety of engaging natural and man-made materials,” he said.

The new annexe is an extension of the room which houses the day care and kindergarten programs which has a varying attendance with the potential to take up to 14 children.

The new area is called the “Reggio Room” as Dederang uses the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching and learning.
