Unleashing ideas

RUNNING FREE: Under 1 Woof owner Heather Harrell (left) and local resident Liz Archer (right) with her dog Buddie would like to see a dog park in Myrtleford.

MYRTLEFORD dog owners need a safe place to let their canine friends run loose without a leash according to a local pet shop worker.

Under 1 Woof owner and operator Heather Harrell is starting a petition in an attempt to have an off-lead dog park introduced in town.

After talking about a park on and off for the past five years Ms Harrell has finally decided to push for the facility and put the idea to Alpine Shire Council.

“There are a lot of dogs that come through our service and what we do know is that there is a huge dog community in Myrtleford,” Ms Harrell said. “And, because of that, we feel this is something worth pursuing.”

Ms Harrell has identified a potential location for the dog park suggesting the patch of land at the intersection of the Jubilee Park Bridge and the lawn tennis courts as an ideal place.

“What is there now is basically an unused piece of land,” Ms Harrell said.
