$38,000 for cancer research

The A Sharpes team members, Shae Maclean (left) and Lily Kingston, were all about music as they walked around the oval at Pioneer Park on Saturday afternoon for Relay for Life. The annual event attracted 10 teams that helped to raise more than $38,000.

TEN teams walked for 18 hours at the Alpine Shire Relay for Life in Bright last weekend and raised over $38,000 for the Cancer Council Australia.

Over the course of the year, teams have been raising funds to aid cancer research and help find a cure. Cancer Council Victoria’s Roberta Atherton said it was fantastic to see teams from across the Alpine Shire.

“This is the fourth time the relay has been held in the Alpine Shire and each year 80 people are diagnosed with cancer in the Alpine Shire, so you are helping people you know.”

Alpine Shire Relay for Life committee member Patrick O’Shea congratulated teams on raising a whopping $38,298.28, and said teams still had a month to raise more.
