Tip-off leads to driver ice bust

A 21 year-old Wangaratta man is facing numerous drug charges after police intercepted him driving at Ovens last Thursday.

Senior Constable Sam McIntosh of Myrtleford police said concerned motorists notified officers that a car was being driven erratically on the Great Alpine Road.

Police intercepted the driver on the Great Alpine Road in Ovens at around 11.30am.

He was travelling towards Myrtleford from Mt Hotham, where he’d been the night before.

Sen Const McIntosh said the car was inspected and the driver searched, and officers allegedly found him in possession of $1300 in cash, three grams of the illicit drug ice, and a pipe.

“People who use ice generally only use point one of a gram, so it’s a substantial amount, which leads us to think he was distributing as well,” he said.
