Generation gap

KICK START: Club veteran Dom Bonacci kicks off the penalty shootout for the older generation.

MYRTLEFORD Savoy Soccer Club finished the Albury Wodonga Football Association season in fine style with the inaugural Generation Cup at Savoy Park on Saturday.

The club’s former greats puffed out their chests and sucked in their stomachs to return to the field one more time to take on the current breed of Savoy heroes.

The crowd-pleasing contest was played in perfect conditions, with every player giving their all to entertain the strong gathering of Savoy members and supporters.

The match was played in great spirit, with friendly banter and the occasional above-the-law AFL-style tackle.

For the older generation, the match at times showed the mind was a lot stronger than the body these days – never more evident than Dom Bonacci’s chase along the wing that resulted in a forward tumble two metres short of the ball.

His legs simply couldn’t keep up with his desire to be the first to the contest.
