A NEW category of the Alpine Shire Youth Awards has been sponsored by TAFCO Rural Supplies, a move which expands the awards to the rural sector.
Named simply ‘Rural’ the new section allows young people aged between 12 and 24 who show commitment to agriculture or rural life in the Alpine Shire, through work, study or lifestyle to be recognised.
Allan McGuffie, chairman of TAFCO Rural Supplies, a successful, locally owned retail co-operative based in Myrtleford, said the business was committed to supporting agriculture.
“What better way to do this is to recognising our youth in this field and highlighting agribusiness as a potential career,’ he said.
“We would urge anyone who knows a young person who satisfies the criteria to make a nomination.”
The other two criteria are to support or champion the future of local agriculture, and to devote their time, whether paid or unpaid, to further the local agricultural industry or rural way of life.
