Power to go one better

RARING TO GO: Mt Beauty cricketers Damien Jenvey and Ashan Ranaweera are keen to get the new CAW season under way.

THEY have been among the competition’s best for the past three seasons without reaching a grand final and once again Mt Beauty will be aiming high this Cricket Albury Wodonga season.

The Power has lost in the semi-finals in each of their past three campaigns, unable to return to the season decider after winning the CAW District first grade premiership in 2012/13 with victory over Dederang.

Last year they fell just three runs short of a grand final appearance, losing by two runs to eventual champions Kiewa.

Ahead of their season opener on October 15 club coach Ashan Ranaweera said the goal was to be playing off for a premiership come March.

“We had a really good year last year but unfortunately we lost in the semi-finals again,” he said.

“We put up a good fight chasing 256 but lost by two runs so hopefully we can go one better this year.”
