THE only way to save the Mt Buffalo chalet is with the help of the community, says newly appointed chair of the Mt Buffalo Destination Advisory Group Janelle Boynton.
The advisory group which have been tasked with the chalet’s long-term future are currently working on a model to present to the Victorian Government on their plans for the chalet and Mt Buffalo.
Ms Boynton cited the recent purchase of the Beechworth Jail and Yackandandah’s co-operative that re-established a petrol station of examples of people power driving change and projects.
While the government has funded $2.8 million in repairs to the chalet with sections of the building being re-stumped along with work on its exterior Ms Boynton said the community will decide its future.
“No party, no government, or department has been able to deliver what is needed and we can bang on about how they should but quite frankly they aren’t going to, so now as a community we need to say what are we going to do,” she said.
“If you look at the social enterprise philanthropic movement happening in the North East it’s a possible answer.
