Old fashioned fete marks 150th

Harrietville Primary School students (from left) Wylde Wisley, Olivia Hinchliffe, Neve White, Mila Hinchliffe, Kirsten Williams, Morgan Jones, Rune Follett and Ruby Thornton had a small celebration for the school’s 150th birthday on Monday.

HARRIETVILLE Primary School is celebrating its 150th birthday this year and the festivities kicked off this week.

A small event was held on Monday to mark the occasion, however, the main celebrations will take place on the fourth weekend in October.

To acknowledge the milestone an old fashioned fete will take place at the school on October 22, together with other activities and displays in Harrietville.

Organising committee member Leah Williams said events will be spread over two days.

“At the school on the Saturday we will have old time games and activities, we’ll have displays of school photos we have gathered, while the students will do a performance with local actor Jenny Packham,” she said.

“We’ll also be selling commemorative pavers to be engraved with names of families who have attended the school.”
