Lake foreshore a real team effort

SECOND CHILDHOOD: Councillor Tony Keeble took the opportunity to have a go in the sandpit while attending the Progressing Places opening last Wednesday.

THE wraps have come off the $1½ million makeover of Mt Beauty’s lake foreshore with Mayor Ron Janas labelling it “spectacular” at the official launch last week.

Cr Janas, who performed the ceremony, said that the project was a great example of what can be achieved when council, the community, local organisations and the government work together towards a common goal.

“The community has been involved in this project from the get-go – from the Upper Kiewa Valley Community Association, whose members have been so proactive in providing feedback, encouraging communication and asking questions, to the Mount Beauty Calisthenics group, who donated the funds for a drinking fountain as a legacy of their 28 years in operation,” he said.

This project was made possible with in-kind support from community groups, as well as $269,400 from council and almost $600,000 from Regional Development funding arms.

Alpine Health contributed $15,000 and $72,500 came from Municipal Association of Victoria through their shade funding, while the Federal Government contributed $515,000 to road and kerb improvement works in the town centre through their Roads to Recovery program, making a total investment of $1.465 million.

About 60 per cent of the work was done by North East tradesmen and businesses.
