BIG IDEAS: Fred Neal, Sophie Mirabella and Kevin Dineen discuss the possibility of Big Buffalo dam. PHOTO: Brad Worrall

FRED Neal says 99 per cent of people in Myrtleford want a Big Buffalo Dam.

The long-time champion of the idea was with Liberal candidate for Indi Sophie Mirabella as she launched her water policy last week.

He along with Kevin Dineen and the late Tiff Rayner have been pushing the idea for almost a decade and more than 40 years after the second stage of the existing dam’s development was shelved.

Mr Neal said everything was in place.

“All we have to do is follow the original plans and capture the water and you only have to look back a couple of weeks when there was 11 inches of rain on Mt Buffalo that all just went down the river,” he said.

“This is possible, it just needs the political will to get it done.”
