Departing library staff still critical

LIBRARY staff in Bright, Myrtleford and Mt Beauty will be forced to re-apply for their jobs but North East Media understands more than half won’t bother.

The demise of the High Country Library Corporation has forced the redundancies at the centres.

Alpine Shire Council will take over the responsibility for the libraries and a library hub based in Myrtleford and promises to relax the job descriptions to cater for those in the current positions who don’t have tertiary qualifications for library work.

But the new structure will have no senior staff at Myrtleford or Mt Beauty.

Myrtleford library manager Marg Arnold is one who won’t re-apply.

“They have made my job redundant,” she said.
