AN inside loo, real kitchen and an expansive deck and verandah are among the major improvements at the near century-old Gapsted Hall.
Six months after major renovations were finished the revamped and refurbished hall was officially opened last Thursday by Alpine Council mayor Ron Janas.
Gapsted Hall committee president Trevor Cousins said it was the result of more than $115,000 in state and local government funding and a generous donation from the Into Our Hands Foundation.
“It is also the result of countless hours of time generously donated by this community,” he said.
“The original hall has been kept intact and dates back to 1936, the supper room and kitchen that was added on in the 1960s was completely gutted.
“The old kitchen was pretty rustic, almost unusable really. There are toilets, including a disabled toilet, now inside the building and what was once a pretty stark looking building from the road now looks far better with the verandah and decking.”
