Private burns still causing headaches

ALTHOUGH Bright CFA captain Paul Mansfield says the majority of people are taking the right precautions when conducting private burn-offs there were still some failing to do the right thing.

Just five days after responding to two private burns that got out of control, Bright CFA along with Porepunkah and Ovens Eurobin were called to Eurobin Creek Track where a fire being used to clear the river bank got away.

While the fire was quickly extinguished Mr Mansfield issued another warning to those choosing to do their own burns.

“There were three brigades respond to that and in total 12 people pulled away from work because that person was not prepared,” he said.

“On top of that we had to call DELWP to get a dozer in there.

“We tell people be prepared, have water, be in attendance, ring it in, watch the weather conditions.
