DESPERATELY needed maintenance work will begin on the Mt Buffalo Chalet in the coming month as the advisory group charged with its long-term future finally gets down to business.

The announcement came last week as recently appointed Parks Victoria chief executive Bradley Fauteux toured the North East.

On Thursday he visited the chalet that has been mothballed for almost a decade.

The Canadian-born parks’ chief said the advisory group would report directly to him and left the door open to future development on Mt Buffalo.

“What a pleasure to spend the afternoon with the Mt Buffalo Chalet Advisory Group hearing the history of the Chalet site,” he said.

“These works aim to stabilise the core front that people will be most familiar with, and allow us to maintain the structure and keep it weather proof ready for any future works.
