Tawonga loses polling booth for Indi election

TAWONGA Primary School has been dumped as a polling booth for next year’s federal election.

TAWONGA Primary School has been dumped as a polling booth for next year’s federal election.

It was one of 21 booths cut from Indi as part of an Australian Electoral Commission review.

Tawonga residents will now have to drive the almost 10 kilometres to Mt Beauty on election day next year.

The commission said increased pre-poll voting and proximity of alternate booths had driven the decisions.

But Wandiligong will remain as a polling booth option, despite having fewer votes cast at the 2013 federal election than Tawonga.

It is also closer to the Bright polling booth than Tawonga is to Mt Beauty.
