Council’s ‘Godless’ agenda

ALPINE councillor Daryl Pearce says there is no room for God in their decision making.

The former mayor has asked fellow councillors to drop the opening prayer from council meetings while also questioning whether their acknowledgement to country addresses the right “tribe”.

Cr Pearce says the prayer’s inference is that if you are not Christian you can’t make a decision.

“Where does it leave a person who is atheist, agnostic or believes in another God,” he said.

“I respect a person’s right to follow whatever their religion might be … personally I think the Dalai Lama seems like a good bloke.

“But to suggest that if you are not Christian you can’t make a decision seems to me to be out of touch and may in fact offend some of our recently arrived citizens.
