RON Janas says “getting shovels in the ground” will be one of his chief objectives in the next 12 months.

But he also wants to be part of an inclusive team, drawing on the skills of his fellow councillors to work for the entire shire on a raft of projects that now sit on the drawing board.

The former Myrtleford policeman was last week elected Alpine Shire Council mayor unopposed for the final term before an election next October.

Mt Beauty’s Tony Keeble was also elected unopposed as deputy mayor.

Cr Janas admitted to some nerves before taking the lead role after the vote.

“We need to consolidate the work of the past three years,” Cr Janas said.
