A friendly face to turn to

SUPPORT GROUP: (from left) Kurt Saggers, Bob Adams, Phil Staff and Strahan Anderson are hoping people will join them to discuss their experience with mental ill health.

PEOPLE in the Alpine Shire dealing with mental ill health will now have a network to share their experience with, through a mental health support group in Bright.

As the stigma attached with mental ill health continues to lessen, Kurt Saggers and Strahan Anderson, two men who have experienced the illness, have set up the Bright Mental Health Support Group.

Mr Saggers said the purpose behind the group is to provide a relaxed atmosphere were those who have or are dealing with the condition can come together and receive or provide support to others.

“There are support services in Wangaratta and Albury and big centres like that but nothing here and this is something that hopefully will benefit the whole Alpine Shire,” he said.

“A lot of people in the community suffer from mental ill health to a degree and being where we are it is hard for people to access those support services.

“Our aim is to provide a place were people can come along and talk to people who have experienced something similar to them.”
