Tigers up and running

Ovens Valley United Tigers Cricket Club, got its inaugural preseason under way last weekend.

WANGARATTA and District Cricket Association’s (WDCA) newest club, Ovens Valley United Tigers Cricket Club, got its inaugural preseason under way last weekend.

Players from the now defunct Myrtleford and Whorouly cricket clubs met on Saturday morning for their first official net session since the two clubs merged in late July.

Former Saints president and now Tigers president Brad Piazza said the club’s first season was something he and all players were looking forward to.

“We are excited by it all, it is a step in the right direction for the former clubs and everyone is on board and really positive about the whole thing,” he said.

“It was great to see all the boys from both clubs getting on really well, there was no segregation so that was good.”

Piazza said the fact that a number of former Saints cricketers play football for Whorouly would help ease the transition between the two and he believes the merger will be great for cricket in the two towns.
