Mediation cost mounts

ALMOST $70,000 may have been spent on mediation sessions between Cr Kate Farrell and two Alpine mayors in recent years, council heard last night.

Papers presented at the monthly council meeting estimate the cost of dealing with the complaints between the councillor and mayors Jan Vonarx and Peter Roper ranged somewhere between $57,265 and $68,536.

During the August meeting, Cr Roper requested chief executive Dave Barry estimate the cost, including officer time of mediation sessions between Cr Farrell and mayor Jan Vonarx, and Cr Farrell and himself during his time as mayor.

Mr Barry took the question on notice and detailed the findings as part of last night’s agenda.

The costs accrued in 2013/14 and 2014/15 and Mr Barry was able to accurately determine the cost of professional fees of $32,820, however, he couldn’t determine the exact cost of officer time but said it was between $24,445 and $35,717.

Officers who spent time on the mediation sessions were, the chief executive, the previous chief executive, director sustainable development, director corporate performance, former manager governance, former human resources manager, and former client liaison coordinator.
