More pokies planned

CLUB Savoy is hopeful Alpine Shire Council will approve a planning permit application to increase the venue’s pokie machines.

The club currently has 26 machines but Club Savoy general manager Rick Watt said a further 14 will benefit the Myrtleford community in more ways than one.

“We have made an application to Alpine Shire Council to increase the number of machines to the original 40 which the club had in 1994,” Mr Watt said.

“The club’s committee feels by having 40 instead of 26 the benefits will far outweigh the non-benefits.

“We put $71,000 back into the community in the last 12 months, and we anticipate being able to put even more into donations next year.

“It will also allow us to undertake much needed renovations and development of the club which will result in increased employment opportunities.”
