Lasting thanks for Lowerson tribute

THANKS: Myrtleford RSL president Kevin Pitts and secretary Bryan Meehan presented Alpine Shire mayor Jan Vonarx with a book that captures the unveiling of the Albert Lowerson memorial statue last Wednesday.

THE Myrtleford RSL has thanked the people who helped make the tribute to the town’s own Victoria Cross recipient Albert Lowerson possible.

The local sub-branch recently presented a book produced by RSL member Loretta Glanville to some of the key people who helped complete and get the $130,000 project off the ground.

The book photographically details the different stages of the project leading up to and including the statue’s unveiling on April 23 this year, and Myrtleford RSL secretary Bryan Meehan said they weren’t even aware that the book was being done until it was handed to them.

“Loretta put together the book unbeknown to us and she has done a wonderful job of it,” he said.

“We decided to give a few out and it’s our way to show our appreciation for the effort some of the people put in for it to become a reality – it wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
