Concern over extra holiday

Businesses to pay for State Government generosity

UNHAPPY: Myrtleford Foodworks director and owner Andrew Reid isn’t happy about a proposed public holiday for the Friday of AFL Grand Final Week.

LOCAL businesses in the Alpine Shire have mixed opinions about the introduction of a public holiday on AFL Grand Final Friday.

Myrtleford Foodworks director and owner Andrew Reid called the idea ridiculous and said it would be tough on many local businesses.

“It’s hard to anticipate what sales are going to be like but I can’t imagine there is going to be too much of any increase in them,” he said.

“We will be open, we still have to deliver a service to our customers but the cost of doing business on that day is going to cost a lot more.

“I think the whole thought behind it was so more people could attend the parade but how does that affect us?

“If there is going to be a public holiday on grand final week it should be on Sunday because a lot of people enjoy the day and then need a day off to recover.”
