A lucky escape

Police warning after high country road accidents

A TRUCK driver is lucky to be alive after the brakes on his semi-trailer failed last Saturday morning.

Leading Senior Constable Scott Baldock of Bright police said the 63-year-old male from Murrabit, was delivering the semi –trailer load of wood to a firewood supplier on the Back Wandiligong Road, when the truck’s brakes failed.

“The driver had just emptied the load and jumped into the back of the trailer to get out the last few remaining pieces, when he realised the truck had started to move,” he said.

“The truck continued to roll out of the property and that’s when he realised it wasn’t going to stop and climbed up the side and jumped out.

“As a result he broke his femur and was taken to Northeast Health Wangaratta for treatment.”

Leading Snr Const Baldock said the truck continued to roll through the top paddock, down a drop into the lower paddock, across Morses Creek Road (Wandi Straight) and continued on towards Morses Creek.
