Great day for a run

RUNNING HARD: Competitors in The Great Alpine Challenge got off to an enthusiastic start in the 2015 Mt Beauty Half Marathon last Saturday, the first leg of Australia’s longest triathlon. The event attracted both locals and athletes from around Victoria.

A SENSATIONAL autumn day helped to make the Mt Beauty Half Marathon a huge success for the large crowd of runners and supporters present.

The Half Marathon is the first leg of The Great Alpine Challenge, and is billed as the largest Triathlon in the world, taking almost five months to complete.

Along with running it also involves skiing and mountain biking legs.

The next stage will be the Kangaroo Hoppet in August, and the final leg will be the Mitta to Mt Beauty Mountain Bike ride in late October.

The Hoppet contains three events, the 42km Kangaroo Hoppet, the 21km Birkebeiner, and the 7km Joey Hoppet.

The Mitta to Mt Beauty Mountain Bike Ride is 55 km, part dirt track and part sealed road, with 740 metres of ascent and 840 metres of descent.
