DEDERANG Mt Beauty’s season didn’t get off to the start they would have liked in Tallangatta and District football, being completely out-muscled and outclassed by Thurgoona on Saturday.

The Bombers were always going to be up against it taking on last year’s preliminary finalists and in the end were overpowered 4.2 (26) to 33.26 (224).

It was a baptism of fire for a new-look, young and inexperienced Bombers outfit who went into the match without five of their best 18 and the final score reflected that.

Missing Darren Bradshaw, Damien Jones, Josh Vinge, Lou Iaria and new recruit Danyon Hearne, through unavailability and injury, the Bombers fielded one of their youngest sides in recent memory.

Bombers coach Marc Almond said the circumstances and result weren’t the ideal start to the season.

“Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong,” he said.

“To have so many guys missing for a start wasn’t ideal and then to lose an experienced player in Beau Packer before halftime put us even further back.
