Drugs not on the rise in town

Police warning after high country road accidents

REPORTS that there has been an increase in the use of drugs, including ice, in Mt Beauty, are unfounded, according to Mt Beauty police Sergeant Charlie Duncan.

“We do not have an ice problem in Mt Beauty,” he told the Alpine Observer.

“There is none of the anecdotal evidence we would expect to see if there was a high level of ice use in any part of the community.”

Sgt Duncan also quashed rumors that a recent incident involving the killing of a family dog was related to the use of ice.

“The dog incident was not ice-related…things can be very easily misrepresented in a small community, and we are constantly fighting the rumor-mill,” he said.

“Drug-related issues that we face on a day-to-day basis in this town are a level of alcohol abuse, and some use of marijuana, mostly among older members of the community.
