Saints fall short

HANDY RETURN: Nelum Kumara finished with figures of 2/59, but Myrtleford was unable to keep Bruck from getting the win at McNamara Reserve on Saturday.

Myrtleford was inflicted with its first loss since the opening round of the Wangaratta and District Cricket Association season after going down to Bruck last Saturday.

Defending their total of 198 the Saints took to the field on day two needing to take nine Bruck wickets after claiming one before the close of play a week earlier.

But unfortunately they weren’t able to keep their opponents under the required target with Bruck posting a score of 247.

The day began just the way captain Corey Southern had hoped with the Saints quickly getting rid of one of Bruck’s overnight batsmen thanks to Nelum Kumara’s dismissal of Ryan Cobain just a couple of overs into play.

And when Ben Paul struck shortly after for the day’s second wicket the Saints were well on top with their opponents struggling at 3/22.

However, Bruck captain Jordan Blades (53) and veteran Darren Petersen (56) would go on to make half centuries and take back control for the away side.
